Rodeneck Castle
High above the Rienz gorge is the fortress of Rodenegg. It used to be one of the most impressive and powerful fortresses in the country and to this day provides a labyrinth of halls and cellars. It is thanks to Oswald von Wolkenstein that this castle was extended and rebuilt into an impressive showpiece. It has been in the possession of his family since the 16th century and a part of this castle is even still inhabited today. A special highlight is of course the museum which contains the famous Iwein frescoes (ancient wall paintings). Every year the castle opens its doors from May 1st to October 15th. Come in if you’re thirsty for discovery.
