Neustift Monastery
Neustift Monastery in Brixen is an active and lively place. While other similar places are very quiet and almost disused, Neustift is alive with hustle and bustle.
It was chosen as the provost of the Augustinian Klosterneuberg of Vienna by the Bishop of Brixen in 1140 and the Neustift monastery was founded. After building, there was more of an income of provosts and this impressive monastery has earned more of a cultural importance.
In the 16th century the Neustift Monastery was in a bad way. There was a lot of plundering because of religious and social upheaval and this monastery was even occupied. Although the damage was later repaired to a large extent, the spiritual building were in danger of falling down. Ultimately it was inhabited by 6 rather than 30 priests.
